Dehradun: Urban Development, Rajiv Gandhi Urban Housing, Census, Reorganization and Election Minister Mr. Madan Kaushik attended the seminar organised with an objective to double the income of farmers at DBS Selakui on Friday. As many as 40 subjects were discussed during the seminar, where the minister speaking as chief guest expressed his views and said that doubling the income of the farmers was a step towards making them self-reliant, for which it was important to give them training. He said that the seminar was being held on relevant subject and the outcome form this seminar should be provided to the agriculture department. A booklet by Doon Business school-national conference on doubling farmers income: ‘Technology And Management Intervention’ was also released on the occasion.
The minister said that the examples of doubling the income of farmers should be presented as success story and brought to the knowledge of the people. He informed that a youth left his job worth Rs 55 lakh and decided to settle in Uttarakhand. His objective was to speed up the work of solid waste management and make arrangements for the street vendors through DM in the district, Installing LED Lights, Local bodies in association with the Chairman Municipal Council. The youth has installed more than one thousand LED lights as mark of success, arranged ten street vendors who have adopted solid waste management.
The minister said that the agriculture students should make it a target of training 50 farmers and transforming them into progressive farmers. He said farmers must be give the training to use good equipment, seeds, chemicals etc. The non-beneficial farmland should be made beneficial through Chakbandi on cluster basis. The formula for doubling the income of the farmers should be brought to ground level and farmers should be informed in their own language. The sugarcane farmers can earn more through the sugarcane by-products.
He said that steps taken to make the farmers self-reliant after Independence by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi will prove to be revolutionary in nature and the farmers of India will figure in most progressive farmers list. He said that through this seminar the new thought and research in the field of agriculture will come to fore. The target to make Uttarakhand organic state by 2022 will help in doubling the income of the farmers. The Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat is very sensitive towards the farmers issues and has a experience of the agriculture sector and using his experience, the government and the related departments will work to increase the income of the farmers and make them self-reliant.
