Dehradun:-Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) on Thursday to promote adventure tourism in the listed Trekking Traction Centre (TTC). The MoU was signed in the presence of Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) Col Ashwin Pundir and Principal NIM Col Amit Bisht.
Under the MoU, the experienced trainers from NIM will impart theoretical and practical training to the youth of Uttarakhand in the wide field of adventures like trekking, hiking and other allied subjects including the medical aspect. Course completion certificates will also be awarded by NIM and UTDB to the students. The joint committee of both the organisation will monitor the training and recommend their suggestions accordingly on a timely basis.
Candidates interested in the training will be given admission on a first-come-first-served basis. The minimum age to enrol for the course is 18 years and the maximum is 35. On completion, the identity card will be issued for the students as professional trekking guides at various Trekking Traction centers.
It is pertinent to mention that 13Treking Traction Centers are covering 43 villages listed in six districts of the state. Nearly 90 per cent of the amount for the training will be given by UTDB and 10 per cent will be given by the student.
Secretary Tourism, Mr Dilip Jawalkar said, “The signing of this MoU is a step forward to promote adventure tourism in Uttrakhand. This will take us to new heights and give us a new identity around the globe. The initiative will also give employment opportunities to the youth in Uttarakhand.”
On the occasion, Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) Col Ashwin Pundir said, “There is a huge potential for adventure sports in our state. Trainers from the most reputed institute NIM will give training to our youth in Mountaineering, Trekking, Hiking and another subject which will be a great experience for them.
Principal NIM Col Amit Bisht said, “This MoU will open new avenues for the people interested in adventure sports. Professionalism in this field will be great for tourists coming from other states as well as from foreign countries.”
Land sports expert, Mr Ranveer Singh Negi said, “This will benefit the youth to reach new heights in adventure sports and follow their passion. This will not only generate employment but these students will be our future trainers that will surely benefit in giving a good experience to our tourists coming here for adventure.”
Director Infrastructure Col Deepak Khanduri, Director Finance, Jagat Singh Chauhan, Additional Director Poonam Chand, Additional Director Vivek Chauhan, Deputy Director Yogendra Kumar Gangwar, Research Officer S.S Sawant, Chief Administration officer Ramesh Semwal with other officials were present during the meeting.
