Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat participated in state level seminar of office-bearers of student unions at Doon University

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat participated in the state level seminar of office bearers of student unions as a chief guest at Doon University ,here on Saturday. The seminar held under the aegis of higher education department was focused on need to reconsider the recommendations of Lyngdoh committee for holding elections to the student bodies in colleges and universities. Addressing the office bearers of student unions from all over the state, Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that discussions on the recommendations of Lyngdoh committee regarding holding student union election in the state is a constructive and welcome initiative. “The Lyngdoh recommendations came in the year 2008 and there is need to reconsider the recommendations as per the need in the changing scenario. This would bring in better changes in the academic environment and education level in the colleges and universities,” he said.

Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that there is need for strong will to bring in positive changes. He said that student union elections are the first democratic step towards entering politics for the youth. The politics, students and academicians should work in a coordinated manner in the interest of the country and the state.

Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that student union politics is the first phase in the democracy for youth.  The youth should have strong ideological commitment, strong base and thinking and work strongly towards achieving their goals. He said that we should have clear thinking and vision and to achieve bigger goals, the youth should have the capacity to struggle. He hoped that the seminar of student union office –bearers will give a new direction and strengthen college politics.

Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the state government giving special attention to bring in qualitative changes in higher education. To encourage research in higher education, 100 academically brilliant but economically poor students are being helped in their research. A hundred economically weak students are provided free coaching for civil services entrance examinations under “Super 100 scheme”. Similarly, hundred brilliant but economically poor students are given free coaching for NDA and CDS entrance examinations.

 Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that a constant dialogue with teachers and students is going on how the youth power can be involved in the development of the state. The suggestions of students are being taken on the issue of raising the standard and quality of education. The Chief Minister also released the first E-service book and MIS on the occasion.  Uttarakhand Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat also expressed his views on the occasion.
