For India’s unification, there’s no element more powerful than the language spoken by most Indians, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu said Sunday in Hyderabad.
Hindi, he said, played a historic role in the development of India’s unity, integrity and linguistic goodwill. Naidu was addressing the 16th Annual Convocation of the Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha. He said that in 1936, the office of Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha was established in Vijaywada.
As Presidents of this Sabha, freedom fighters such as Shri Konda Venkapapayya Pantulu, Andhra Kesari Shri Tungturi Prakasham Pantulu, Shri Bejawada Gopalreddy, Swami Ramanand Tirtha did great work, Naidu said.
He said it was heartening to know that Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha not only promoted Hindi, but also trained a large number of Hindi teachers, translators and publicists.
Language can help good governance because information and knowledge can create an enlightened citizenry, Naidu said. (indiatoady)
