New Delhi: A meetingwas chaired by Minister, External Affairs on 6th November 2017, on the Expert Committee Report pertaining to NRI Marital issues.This meeting also attended by Minister of Women & Child Development and Minister for Law & Justice recommended adoption of following measures :
- All marriages to be notified in the website of registrars of marriages
- Compulsory registration of NRI marriages
- Creation of a website by MEA for posting summons/warrants.
- Constitution of Integrated Nodal Agency (INA) headed by Secretary, MWCD.
All the NRI marital dispute cases are to be forwarded National Commission for Women (NCW) for scrutiny. After scrutiny of National Commission for Women (NCW) dispute cases would be recommendedto Integrated Nodal Agency (INA) to consider issuing Look-Out Circulars (LoC). The Integrated Nodal Agency (INA) is to discuss regularly all issues related to NRI Marital disputes to safeguard the interest of such women. As a part of suchdecisions, consequential action can also be taken including possibility of revocation/impounding of passport.
The recommendation relating to such compulsory registration of marriages by NRI has also been examined by the Government.
This was stated by Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, in reply to a starred question in Rajya Sabha today.
